It all kicks off with shearing

Each year we book a professional shearer to come and shear our sheep. It marks the next stage of the sheep year - as they start to enjoy the new grass, I start to deal with their fleeces

Sheep grow wool continuously to protect them from the weather and as such wool is a natural product of the sheep's life cycle. The welfare of sheep is improved by them being shorn every year. Shearing keeps sheep cool in the warmer months and reduces the risk of parasitic infestation and disease.

It's a skillful job and I'm more than happy to leave it to a professional. Our task is to get the sheep into a stable, feed them through to the shearer and take the fleeces off hims for sorting later, while making a note of whose is who's.
