Fleeces off to the Mill

The quality of the fleece going to a mill for processing needs to be as good as possible for a great product. An important part of this is preparation of the fleece before it gets sent off. This involves making sure the wool on the fleece is strong and healthy as well as removing the more matted areas, those parts with too much vegetable matter (VM) and poo. This can be a good 15% or more of the fleece depending on the overall size of the fleece.

This week I've been working on the remaining coloured Ryeland fleeces ready to go off to the mill be made into roving
